Antonia was commissioned by Leeds City Council to design with their landscape team a garden for the 2004 Chelsea Flower Show. The brief was to create a visual interpretation of ‘From Freedom to the Future’ based on Leeds’ twinning with Durban in South Africa.
The garden was finally integrated into Millennium Square in Leeds 2005. The idea for the garden was inspired by Nelson Mandela’s visit to the Leeds.
The award-winning design was developed alongside workshops that explored themes of freedom and aspiration with school children in Leeds and Durban, South Africa. The final design incorporated artwork designs created by the pupils from both twinned cities.
